Why sustained speed matters more than a speed-test peak
Most speed tests report a short burst. Live IPTV is different: a 4K channel pulls a constant 15–25 Mbps for hours, and a single dip below that rate empties the player buffer and causes a freeze. That is why this tool records a throughput sample every quarter second, discards the TCP ramp-up, and reports both the sustained average and the lowest one-second dip. If the dip is far below the average, the problem is Wi-Fi interference, congestion or ISP shaping — not the bandwidth on your bill.
Bufferbloat: the hidden cause of matchday freezes
We also measure ping while the line is saturated. A router with poor queue management can add 100–500 ms of delay under load, which makes channel switching slow and causes stutter when someone else in the house starts a download. Grades A–B are ideal; C or worse benefits from enabling SQM / Smart Queue on your router or using Ethernet.
Quick fixes if your result is lower than expected
- Use Ethernet or 5 GHz / 6 GHz Wi-Fi close to the router — 2.4 GHz rarely sustains 4K.
- Restart the router and streaming device before big events.
- Check for DNS interference with our DNS & ISP test.
- Compare latency to multiple regions with the ping & jitter test.
